Frank Pictures Gallery is delighted to present UNDER THE INFLUENCE a painting show by LORI LA MONT. Working exclusively in watercolor, La Mont eschews traditional watercolor techniques and styles. Her large-scale paintings are executed with incredible precision, and utilize a combination of built-up layers of bold, saturated color and meticulously rendered detail. Under The Influence is a series of paintings inspired by the comradery that sporting events incite in societies of all walks of life. “Animals are directly being affected by the human pageant,” says La Mont, “ my work seeks to narrow the gap between nature and culture, sportsmanship vs. salesmanship, and entertainment vs. advertisement. While animal branding is an age old identifier of ownership, I am most fascinated by the somewhat blurred line in the marketing of animals as commodities.” La Mont’s paintings have been included in many solo and group exhibitions including the Long Beach Museum of Art, where her work is included in their permanent collection, Anchorage Museum of Art, Berkeley Arts Center 2nd City Art Gallery, Gallery 33, and the Period Gallery in Omaha, among others.
